Raft Studios

Mixed media. Textiles using reclaimed materials such as vintage cloth and paper, shoreline fibres, eroded plastic and metal fragments to create low relief wall hung work. Research has revealed the identities of decades of past occupants of the studio building, now documented and presented as an art work.

Annabel Faraday

Collaged and printed stoneware ceramic wall pieces and sculpture. Combinations of clay, metal, findings from tidelines and salvage from scrapheaps, with an emphasis on rust. Ridged and rugged ceramic vessels and collagraphs printed from packaging.

Fiona Denning

Adrienne Hunter & Nick Snelling

Adrienne Hunter and Nick Snelling work from studios in their wild garden. Both are inspired by nature; Nick works with oils on wood while Adrienne works on paper and cardboard with collage, oil sticks and anything else to hand.

Maria O’Neill

I paint in all mediums; watercolour, acrylic and oils as well as sketch in pen and ink. I live and work in St Leonards and with Hastings nearby I find I have ample inspiration and subject matter on my doorstep. I like to paint the everyday sights, sounds and colourful quirky, happy life of this area and its people.

Penny Nice

Through the medium of watercolour and mixed media I explore the diversity and colours of the local coastline, communities and surrounding countryside. The beach hut provides a great studio with changing light and environment.

Chris Eastwood and Geraldine Franklin

Chris works in paint and textile techniques (batik, weaving, felting), capturing the colours and tones of the natural world. Geraldine’s passion for art is reflected in her excitement for colour in screen print and painting in oil or acrylic.

Elise’s Studio

A reveal of studio work by bexhill based artist Elise Liversedge. A mixture of photographic collage / printmaking and architectural model making. Levelling up a random studio, making sense of disparate acts.

Patrick Goff

I will be working throughout the event, so it is a paint splattered workspace; visitors will see both framed and unframed work, preparatory studies, palettes and general detritus of a studio and pretty garden!

Joan Roche at the Burton Gallery

A graduate of the Royal Academy Schools, Roche has taught art, and exhibited her paintings both in the U.K. and abroad. Her work originates in a forensic observation of her subject matter, which continues throughout the process to completion.

Brian Deighton at the Burton Gallery

As a Master’s graduate of Goldsmiths’ College, and founder member of the Riverside Artists’ Group (RAG), much of Deighton’s work touches on the spiritual and philosophical layers within our lives, and the universal connections we make within our world.

The Artworks

The ArtWorks’ guest artists this year are international knitwear designer Craig Lawrence showing upcycled knits, & ceramicists Judith Douglas and Dee Harvey. Susan Miller will be exhibiting her watercolours, acrylics and porcelain vessels.

Daxa Parmar – The Big Quiet

Using observation as a tool to mindfully find stillness and quiet and honour the epic, this exhibition is a collection of small drawings and photographs of the historical fishing net huts and boats of Rock a Nore of Hastings.

‘No place like home’ is an installation in a domestic living room that combines 138 unique vintage handkerchiefs. Each one has been screen printed with the name of a woman who was killed by a man in 2021, along with details about when, where and how she was murdered.

Tucked away on Harold’s unadopted Road butting onto the edge of the East Hill Country Park. Using lambswool and a felting process Sally creates bespoke jumpers, jackets and coats as well as scarves, hats, gloves, and hot water bottle covers.

Emily Mackey

Visit the garden workshop (backing onto Hastings Country Park) of artist, weaver and sculptor Emily Mackey, to see finished work and work in progress. She will be selling a selection of hand woven pieces and demonstrating how she makes her woven and rush plaited work.

Anna Pontonutti

Acrylic paintings, prints and cards inspired by the weather and the sea of the East Sussex coastline. The work covers a wide range of sizes from small (10×10 cm) to large (120×100 cm).

2022 Festival Highlight: Jim Roseveare – Site number: 102222

Roseveare’s art incorporates concrete, organic materials and debris swept from surrounding ground surfaces. The very fact that this exhibition will not only be hosted in the gallery itself, but also in surrounding woodland, embodies the very core themes and concepts that have preoccupied the artist throughout his life.

SLICC Studio, The Clifton Centre

Theresa Hodge and Penny Pepper share different writing and crafting creative practices in their fully accessible studio. Theresa brings a passion for inclusion into her crafting work. Award-winning writer, and activist Penny, shares untold stories and books.

Paisley and Friends is a colourful shop in the heart of St Leonards on sea selling cards, gifts, accessories and clothing. We will be hosting an exhibition by awesome local designer maker Veronique Pullen, showcasing Veronique’s full collection of handmade contemporary jewellery inspired by the British coastline.
