Samantha completed her foundation at Wimbledon and BA (Hons) degree at Camberwell School of Art, London. In her early twenties she left London to travel and work first in Brazil and then in Madrid. Returning to the UK, she settled in Hastings, drawn by the vibrant artistic community. Samantha is a figurative artist and she takes inspiration from the light and beauty of East Sussex – in particular the sea and coastline. Her paintings set out to capture the seen or imagined moment and her focus is the human interaction within it. Her human subjects may typically be alluded to or suggested in her landscapes, but in her seascapes her swimmers feature clearly. Their connection to each other and their surroundings are tangible and real. This is in contrast to the skies, clouds and waves which become gentle studies in abstraction. It is this push -pull between figurative and abstract that stimulates – sitting alongside the joy or melancholy of the scene.
