Taking inspiration from her Sussex surroundings, Lorraine experiments with home dug, iron-rich clay and traditional stoneware to create texture and patina on ceramic forms, slips, and glazes. Her latest work ranges from sizeable stone-like moon jars and chargers to smaller functional pieces.
She has recently built a fast-fire wood kiln, now up and running, and is enjoying extending her making practice. Wood firing is an exciting and unpredictable process that can bring about interesting ash and flame effects on raw clay and create more depth to glazes.
The home studio is a short walk from the train station and plenty of parking on site. There are pubs and a cafe in the village open for lunch or coffee.
