THINGS MERELY ARE
Taken from the book of the same name, this exhibition brings together artists local to Hastings in exploring the activity of the poetic imagination. Celebrating staff, ex students of ESCG and affiliated artists, the exhibition reflects on the intersection of poetry and art, where language takes physical form and objects become imbued with poetic resonance. The works in this exhibition exist in the liminal space between word and form, idea and material.
HOWIE WHALE – BEDLAMITE
Howie Whale is a self-taught artist processing personal experiences of mental illness, body dysmorphic disorder and their hospitalisation at ‘Bedlam’ (Bethlem Royal Hospital) in 2018 – 2019. The artwork represents a vital reconnection to artistic expression. Having reached a point of reflection and reconnection with creative expression, which was restrained during their illness. Howie presents an exhibition that invites public observation, interaction,
and discussion.
