Mews Rd & Harold Mews, St Leonards on Sea, TN38 0EA
Claire Whelan is a weaver, designer and artist, with a highly developed
understanding of materials, dyeing and hand weaving techniques.
Colour is the most important aspect of the design process and she is
intrigued by the individual emotional responses people have to varying
colour compositions in her rich combinations of pattern and colour.
The Mudworks is a ceramic studio in the heart of St Leonards.
In the 18 months since it was established in the Mews Quarter,
Chantelle Duncan & Isabella Campi have created a small but vibrant
pottery community. They will be exhibiting their own contemporary
pieces alongside those of the Mudworks’ dozen or so artist members.
A hugely diverse range of pottery styles will be on display alongside
functional handmade homeware.
Alex Leadbeater has taken part in Open Studios at The Muse for many
years but will still be tidying up. Catch her as she catches the energy
of the waves, sometimes raw and turbulent or playful and tranquil as a
day on the beach. Cards, prints and paintings and ongoing classes.
Khadija Khan, British-Asian artist paints abstract land and seascapes, often featuring gold leafing. Inspired by her experience of living across North Africa and the Middle East, her art shifts across time, space and mood, capturing the tranquillity of nature to create moments of peace,
meditation and reflection.
Chris Wright is a multi-disciplinary artist, taking influences from ice age fertility figurines, tribal masks, zen practices, and just hanging about on the streets. Sometimes absurdly grotesque in
bright abstractions, sometimes minimally gestural, but always anthropological in nature with an enduring curiosity.
Rachel Lever, a dedicated art contributor invites you to celebrate 20 years of the Hastings arts community at a unique Coastal Currents show at 7 Mews Road, titled THOSE WERE THE DAYS, ending with a party inside a glowing art installation.
Opening Hours: 3/4 September and 10/11 September 11am-5pm
