My name is Elizabeth Duckett, I am 12 years old and I have a passion for sewing. I enjoy creating things that make other people happy. I first started sewing when I was 7 years old after watching The Great British Sewing Bee. I loved the creativity involved and the amazing things that people produced from a simple piece of material. When I was 9 my parents bought me my sewing machine and since then I have been busy making all sorts of things – bunting, cushion covers, pencil cases and a range of clothes for myself and others.

One of the things I have been focussing on recently is upcycling used clothes into something new. This is something I am hoping to continue to develop over the coming years. I have also started working on the Bronze Arts Award with The Fashion School, based in Brighton, in my own time.

My dream is to one day become as talented as Coco Chanel. She is my idol because she never gave up on her dream, despite the hardship she faced along the way. She became one of the world’s greatest fashion designers and her work still influences fashion today.
